K-12 Parent Portal: The Principal Voice

August 3rd, 2008 · 2 Comments

As I’ve built the story-telling framework to support the design of a K-12 Parent Portal, I’ve had support from several blogging forums whose participants have added to the voices.

This post introduces the principal voice to this story. Do you work with someone like Genevieve? Are you Genevieve? Please help bring understanding to this work by sharing your experiences as a school administrator in involving parents in their children’s learning. I welcome stories about online successes (and faliures) but also want to hear about other engagements, wishes, hopes. Thanks for sharing!

Here is Genevieve, and her voice so far:

  • I’m really challenged to get parents out to the Parent Council meetings. We’ve tried newsletters and website announcements. I worry that some parents think it is cliquey, that they won’t fit in.
  • I want the teachers in my school to be comfortable in working with parents as partners in their child’s learning. I’m hoping that connecting online will strengthen the face-to-face communications.
