John Kotter’s new book about change, urgency and complacency holds an important message for K-12 education. Our success may have the paradoxical effect of putting us behind. Here John Kotter summarizes the issues in his book A Sense of Urgency.

Hi Cindy,
Thanks for sharing this!
I tend to get impatient with the rate of change in education – most of all because MY KIDS are in the system right NOW, and I want things to be different in their classrooms right NOW!
I want my children (and all children!) to be engaged in learning in their classrooms. I don’t want to hear “I had technology class today and it was SO boring.” I don’t want to have to fight with them everyday and MAKE them go to school!
And yet I’ve had frequent conversations with colleagues, often urging me to be patient and that change takes time.
This video helped me put a different perspective on my push for change. Yes, there are times that I have to be patient – but there are also times to push the comfort zone!
You’ve given me much to think about this morning!
