I like the idea of a parent portal. It is a long way for the static web sites of yester-years. The biggest challenge of the portal is keeping it up. We have site portals and I would have to say that they are underutilized because of the commitment to it or it being new. Any thoughts on how that could be address.

If the portal is just another way to push information to parents, it will only be as current as those who are posting.
But if a portal supports the parent-school community, that is a different story. As Pushor reminds us, we need to change the landscape of school to engage parents differently. When parents are engaged, the portal extends that engagement beyond the physical walls of school.

Good idea. One big challenge will be to create activities in the community that involve using site as part of an interactive meeting, workshop or presentation. My biggest challenge is to extend the circle of users…parents, advocaters, progressive educators, school age students…Otherwise it will be the same tech-savvy or tech-friendly people using these wonderful tools.
